Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar Empty Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar

or better known in the IRC as simply " Gol'gar ", as that is far more easier to type (and takes less time, too! think of all those milliseconds you can save!). This card has a very nice effect, and it is one of the strongest lv 5 monsters out there, attack-wise. Furthermore, it's base 2600 atk let's it overpower stardust quite nicely, getting rid of the lock on its destruction effect. Unfortunately, since its synchro requirements call for ONLY alien monsters, this card isn't very splashable into any deck, save aliens, or an alien/reptile sort synergy. anyways, let's assume that you have versatile ways of getting this card out, and fast. Let's see how it works in a duel Very Happy

"Once per turn, you can select any number of face-up Spell or Trap Cards. Return those cards to their owners' hands, and distribute new A-Counters among monsters on the field equal to the number of cards returned. Once per turn, you can remove 2 A-Counters from anywhere on the field to destroy 1 card your opponent controls."

A quick look at it, and it doesn't seem to help you get any field advantage, since the only cards you can bounce are face up spells and traps. While Gol'gar does get rid of certain traps, continuous/equip/swordsofrevealinglightkindof spells, and field spells temporarily, there's no guarantee that a deck you're going up against will use one of the above. That's when your deck comes into play. For example, you can stock your deck full of stall cards such as Swords of Revealing Light or Nightmare's Steelcage, and simply bounce them back to your hand, attack, then replay them, while also getting nifty A-counters to use to wreak some havoc on your opponent's field! Here's some cards to go with Gol'gar. Also helps stall the duel anyways till you can get a Gol'gar out:

    Swords of Revealing Light
    Swords of Concealing Light
    Nightmare's Steelcage
    Ancient Forest
    Gravekeeper's Servant
    The Dark Door
    Level Limit Area B
    Level Limit Area A
    Gravity Bind
    basically any stall card

Also, Gol'gar give you the potential of reusing cards such as Limit Reverse, Call of the Haunted, and Different Dimension Gate, which, otherwise, has a one-time-only use. But with Gol'gar, after you synch the resurrected monster (assuming that is wat you do, or tribute it), you can bounce that card back to your hand for another use!!! AND, in the meantime, you get even more a-counters to use to blow up your opponent's field.

aaand yeah, that's all I can think of right now about Gol'gar.

    happy..dueling..? o.O

I have to say that this card is simply incredible, it rivals even Brionac through it's power and field-advantage creation. This has got to be in the top 5 synchro's ever created, it's easy summonability makes it an automatic 3x in every alien deck. Once you have this out, you'll most likely win.

    5/5 XD

It is good, but its effect is kinda conditional, and it's not really that splashable. Although a staple in any Alien Deck, I would not say it is one of the best Synchros made, even ignoring the summoning conditions. Oh, by the way, that "having it out will likely win" thing. False. I once fought a good Alien deck that brough out Cosmic Fortress 3 times. I beat it all 3 times and (barely) won.

I think it is in the top 3 synchro's ever created. If you're playing right, you'll win. It's non-splashability doesn't hamper it's power as a synchro, it only makes it less abusable by other players. The ability to remove your opponents traps AND reuse your own is INCREDIBLE, not conditional at all as alien decks run large ammounts of continuous spells. It's worth playing just for that effect, it's destruction effect is just plus as well.

Pokefan - The alien deck you faced was NOT good if it got out all 3 and it didn't win.

Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar Empty more epicness!

Post  SilverX Mon Oct 05, 2009 9:39 pm

and with the release of hidden arsenal..brionac and the other ice barrier synchro that sorta mirrors Gol'gar, cept it bounces any card on the field makes a great combo w/ gol'gar as well. multiple bounce, much much destruction, and more and more bounce, and an open field for direct atks!!

plus it makes alien hypno more playable in alien decks.

that'd be wat i call epic.

When Brionacc and Mist Wurm comes out, synchro-heavy Fishes and Blackwings will have a field day...

Boy, do I wish Gungnir was compatible with Morphtronic tuners. I just love spamming the Level 7s.

Seems weird...but sure. I still don't think Gol'gar is too special though.

    Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar Empty bump

indeed, though Gol'gar's effect is quite great. Konami just nerfed it by giving it very specific tuner requirements :p

I think that in order for a card to be considered among the best, it needs to be splashable, or far too powerful. Pot of Greed was splashable, and Judgment Dragon/Dark Armed Dragon are some of the most powerful cards to exist. For Gol'gar to be among the top 3, he needs to be more accessable, like Thought Ruler Archfiend.

CED is the best card of all time, and it's only semi-splashable.
